Happy Charter Day!

Congratulations, Towamencin! Today marks the 1st day that the sewer sale is illegal!

Additionally the Charter can increase citizen participation in the following ways:

  • Allows citizens to propose an ordinance to the Board. If the Board rejects it, it goes to ballot for voter approval.

  • Allows citizens to require the Board to reconsider adopted ordinances. If the Board fails to repeal, it goes to the ballot for voter consideration.

  • Allows the Township to send ordinances directly to the ballot.

  • Requires ballot measures for proposed sales or leases of Township property exceeding 25% of the annual Township budget.

  • Requires a public meeting for discussion of any ballot measure.

  • Proposed ordinances must be available on the Township website. Adopted ordinances must be available on the website before their effective dates.

  • Names, terms, & vacancies for elected and appointed members of boards, authorities, and commissions must be on the website.

  • Contact information for elected officials must be on the website.
